It used to be that the stage musical came before the movie version. The Billy Elliot London musical based on the film about an 11-year-old boy from a coal mining village in County Durham who dreams of becoming a ballet dancer is a triumph. Critics have said that the Billy Elliot musical London production is quite possibly the greatest British musical they have ever seen.

That’s a bold claim when you’re up against the likes of Oliver, but the Billy Elliot musical more than stands comparison with the greats. There is a warm humour and humanity in the Billy Elliot London show that is entertaining, imaginative and big-hearted. While the film rocked out to hits from T Rex, the Billy Elliot theater version benefits from cracking tunes by Sir Elton John.
